Procedures offered at Ayad Dental
Dental Implants- If you are
missing teeth or a single tooth dental implants are an option. A dental implant
is placed into your jawbone and acts as a tooth. To be eligible for dental implant
surgery you must have enough bone in the area of the missing tooth and a strong
enough jaw. As well your overall health must be good. Please come in for a consultation
and we would love to share more information with you and answer any questions.
Zoom!® Advanced Power Whitening-
There is nothing better than a bright beautiful white smile! Unfortunately over
time there are many tempting factors that will cause our teeth to darken. There
are many different means of whitening but one of the easiest and most recent procedures
is Zoom! Whitening. It is a very short pain-free procedure that can whiten your
teeth up to eight shades in no more than an hour!

Sealants- Children begin developing
their baby teeth approximately 6 months after being born. We at Ayad Dental strongly
advise to have your child begin their dental check ups as soon as their first birthday.
Sealants close up the crevices in teeth acting as a barrier to minimize the collection
of oral bacteria. This will decrease the chances of developing tooth decay. Sealants
are applied to all adult teeth as the child starts developing them, usually starting
around the age of six. The tooth is examined for deep groves that may act as a food
and plaque trap. If the tooth has a deep grove a sealant is placed.
Dental Fillings- A high percentage
of Canadians have experienced a cavity. A cavity is an infections caused by bacteria
build up in our mouths. The bacteria slowly begins to break through the enamel which
is the outer surface of the tooth and if not treated can break through all the way
to the nerve.
In order to remove a cavity the dentist must remove the decayed area of the tooth
and rebuild it with a filling material. There are many different types of filling
material ranging from gold to titanium.
A more aesthetic approach is the white filling. With a white filling you do not
see the difference between the tooth structure and the filling material.
The best way to avoid cavities is to practice good oral hygiene and to avoid high
sugar foods.
Dental Bonding- This procedure
is used to repair chipped, stained or cracked teeth. Dental Bonding is done by the
use of a composite resin designed to match the color of the patient’s teeth. This
results in a very natural smile! Bonding can also act as an alternative to braces
and veneers if the gap and/or the chip are minor in size.
Tooth Contouring- This is
a dental procedure that is used to reshape the appearance of one or more teeth.
This is a cosmetic treatment used to enhance the appearance of the teeth. If your
teeth are chipped, cracked, overlapped or crooked this treatment may be an option
for you. This is another procedure that can act as an alternative to braces.
Dental Bridges- This is another
option for replacing missing teeth. The dentist will attach a false tooth to the
teeth surrounding the empty area where you have lost a tooth. First the teeth adjacent
to the empty space are shaved down slightly. Then an impression of your mouth is
taken using play dough like material. This impression is sent to a dental lab where
the bridge will be made. A temporary bridge will be placed until your next visit
to cover the shaved down teeth and fill the space of the lost tooth. At your second
appointment the temporary bridge will be removed and the permanent bridge will be
fitted and cemented to your teeth.
Tooth Crown- A crown is a procedure
done to restore a severely broken down tooth and to restore a tooth that has had
a root canal. A crown will restore a tooth to its original shape after it has been
badly damaged and or decayed and a filling will not will not resolve the issue.
A crown is also used to hold a bridge in place and hold together a tooth that is
heavily cracked. Another usage of a crown is to cover discolored and misshaped teeth.
A crown will take at least two visits. At the first visit the tooth is shaved down
and an impression is taken. The impression is sent to a dental lab where the crown
is made. A temporary crown is then placed. At your second visit the dentist will
remove the temporary crown and fit the permanent crown. Once the permanent crown
fits perfectly it will be cemented to your tooth.
Root Canal- A root canal
is needed when the nerve/pulp of the tooth is infected or damaged. A damaged pulp
is the result of an untreated cavity or constant restorative work such as several
fillings. At first the dentist will numb the area around the tooth and may provide
sedation if needed. The dentist will then remove as much of the diseased pulp as
possible and then clean out the rest of the infection thoroughly before the root
is closed. After the root is closed a temporary filling will be placed until a permanent
filling or crown is put into place.
Hygiene- At Ayad Dental we have
two certified Dental Hygienists. Dental hygiene is based mainly on preventative
care, which includes teeth cleaning, scaling, root planning, fluoride treatment
and polishing treatment. Another reason to visit the hygienist is to be educated
on how to take care and sustain your teeth on a daily basis.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation- Nitrous
oxide, which is also known as laughing gas, sedation will allow you to relax and
not feel any pain through out the procedure.
Extractions- There are many
different factors that can lead to a tooth being extracted. For example a cavity
may be so severe that a root canal will not suffice to resolving the problem therefore
the tooth would have to be extracted. Another situations is advanced gum disease
weakening the bone that holds the tooth to the point where it loosens the grip on
the tooth. An extraction is one of the final procedures in dentistry and a great
deal of work will be done before this treatment in attempt to save the tooth.
Periodontal Procedures-
It is important to care for your gums and bone, since they are the foundation holding
your teeth in your mouth. Gingivitis is gum disease, and periodontitis is gum and
bone disease. If treated properly these problems can be prevented. If the issue
is left without treatment there is a possibility that the infection may affect several
teeth resulting in tooth loss. We may schedule you for check-ups with a dentist
and if a specific gum or bone procedure is needed with an on-site Periodontist.
